  • GIST Vietnamese Alumni Association donates to the GIST Development Fund

    □ The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Seung Hyeon Moon) has announced that the GIST Vietnamese Alumni Association has pledged a certain amount of money for the GIST Development Fund to commemorate the first general meeting of the newly formed GIST Vietnamese Alumni Association.

∘ The first general meeting of the GIST Vietnamese Alumni Association was held on June 6, 2017, to help organize the community of Vietnamese graduates from GIST. Dr. Do Manh Cuong, who serves with the Vietnam Ministry of Health, was elected the first chairman of the alumni association, and Dr. Nguyen Van Anh, who works at Hanoi University, was elected secretary-general. The meeting was attended by 53 people.

    □ Dang Minh Tuan, who is one of the most successful GIST graduates in Vietnam, returned to his home country after receiving a master's degree from GIST and then founded the venture company "My Instrument and Technology JSC (Join Stock Company)" in 2013. Although Vietnam is a socialist country with restrictions on free economic activities, the company is considered to be a model success story of start-ups in Vietnam.

∘ Currently, the company's headquarter is in Hanoi with an office Ho Chi Minh. The company has a total of 20 employees and is focused on supplying high technology-based products to the Vietnamese market. Since 2014, it has been designated as the official exclusive source for Airocide-related (which was originally developed by NASA) products in Vietnam. In recent years, they have been exporting high-tech products developed by GIST-related companies, such as Amotech and Eco Energy Solutions, to expand and develop the market for more advanced technologies in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

    □ Dr. Do Manh Cuong, chairman of the alumni association, said, "Without the good guidance and administrative support from the professors at GIST, it would not be easy to organize the first general meeting today. We hope that members of the alumni association will be used for the development of GIST and that our collective expertise can be used in a meaningful manner."
